Romance over the cheese ! Yesterday one of our young local customers came in and very carefully selected three cheeses - 'they are my girlfirend's favourites' he said. He then asked if he could buy one of our wicker shopping baskets that we use in the shop. We couldn't really sell him one - as they are a bit old and battered - but agreed to lend him one instead as he was so insistant that he wanted one.
My husband then asked him why he wanted it - and back came the reply - "I'm taking my girlfriend on a trip down the river and I am going to ask her to marry me!"
Well you can imagine the buzz in the Deli for the rest of the day!
At the close of the day we locked the door and started to tidy up when we hear a knocking on the window - it was our customer who had returned with our basket - and he was wearing a smile as wide as a Cheshire cat - "she accepted me! ...and she loved the cheeses too."
And what were those most romantic of cheeses? They were Berskwell Ewe's milk cheeese, French Brie and that lovely Irish favourite Cashel Blue.
Well we are now looking forward to the wedding - and what's the betting they order a Cheese Wedding Cake from us too! It would be an absolute please to make it for them...
